WELCOME

Welcome to Brindle Voice, the website of St. James' Parish Church, Brindle, Chorley.

On Sunday mornings 60 or 70 of us gather to join in worship, prayer and fellowship. We use the Common Worship liturgy, sing four hymns, and celebrate Parish Communion with the help of our robed choir. We like old-fashioned hymns, short sermons, and a cup of tea afterwards.

Our church has over a 100 members some of whom travel miles to get here, others stroll in to this centre of village life. We have a thriving Sunday school and young families who feel relaxed with their children.

We aim to be welcoming, inclusive, and homely. We like to laugh, and to help each other. We are traditional in our liturgy and Anglican in our theology, we hope that we can be a spiritual home for all our parishioners.

We offer two services every Sunday. On most Sundays there is a 9am Communion or Matins both using the ancient and beautiful Book of Common Prayer. There is very rarely any singing or preaching at the early service as it has a quieter, more contemplative feel. On one Sunday we welcome the uniformed organisations to church, this is as far away from contemplative prayer as you can get, but whilst the “still, small voice of calm” may be lacking, you may win a Mars Bar.

At 10.30am we generally have a Parish Communion with a host of enthusiastic lay ministers. Sunday School also meets at this time at least twice a month in the Cavendish Chapel.
