The Rector

Mark Cannon is a non-stipendiary priest-in-charge. That means he isn’t the “Rector” at all, but after 900 years of calling the parson “rector”, Brindle isn’t about to change in a hurry.

Mark started here in 2000, having been Vicar of Coniston and Warden of a Diocesan Youth Centre, he came to Brindle and also acted as a Vocations Adviser. In 2005 he changed direction and became a solicitor working in Chorley, for local firm Napthens. This means less time to be given to “vicaring”, although he is let out for funerals. It also means that a strong lay team is actively involved in extending the ministry in many different directions. (In other words, “Don’t get in the way, Mark!”)

Mark comes from Yorkshire, something he is inclined to go on about from time to time. He also captains the Brindle Cricket XI –new players always welcome.

Mr Joe Clitheroe

Now retired Joe runs the Worship committee, and has been a faithful Warden for six years. He also administers the chalice.

Mr Dave Packer

Runs his haulage agency from home, and is in charge of our extensive and exhausting Social Programme which raises funds for the church. He has been a Warden for five years.

Dr Kathy Whyte

Bursar of a Greater Manchester University and also the Secretary of the PCC. She also reads lessons and leads intercessions

Mrs Sue Bolt

Mother of four and our Treasurer. She also runs a successful guinea-pig breeding programme and hosts our study group.

Mrs Dianne Maguire

Works for the police and is our Pastoral Assistant. She specialises in visiting and youth work

Mr Rod Faulkner

Settled in Brindle because of its handiness for his commuting schedule which takes Rod between London and Edinburgh on a regular basis. Rod runs the Fabric Committee and rings one of the bells.

Mrs Sam Nicol

Works for the NHS as a manager, and turns for light relaxation to managing the unruly elements of the Sunday School; having sorted out the leaders, she then looks after the 24 + children.

Mrs Joan Croasdale

Was Churchwarden for over 20 years and now looks after the Outreach Committee. She is an administratrix of the chalice and a school governor.

Mr Richard Evans

Enjoying a peaceful retirement in Brindle which turns out to be busier than working life. Richard is involved in many aspects of the Brindle scene, but, for us, he looks after the Communications Committee and is a sidesman and reader.

These are just a few of the many people who contribute to our common life. There is always room for more!
