Women's Institute

presents Septembers meeting was quite a change from the planned
'Bra Doctor', who was unfortunately unwell and could not make it.
However we had a wonderful evening with a great speaker who stepped in at short notice. She amazed us with gift-wrapping techniques using items from around the home. When they were complete, you almost certainly didn't want to open them!
Chandra Our October meeting was a returning
speaker who we always enjoy - Chandra is a Malaysian lady and gave a talk on 'Malaysian Culture' from a
woman's perspective. She told us about the 'formal dress' day on a Friday in Malaysia when everyone
must wear traditional dress. She also told us how it is still expected of the women when entering a room with men present, they must get down on their hands and knees and crawl in, not making eye contact, leave the tray of food/drink and crawl back out again.
How sad this goes on in this day and age. Chandra is now married to an English man and lives here. She is never short of amazement of some of our customs, facilities and wealth.
A very humbling but funny presentation.
WI Both meetings were followed by our usual business, trips and courses, raffle and birthday flowers.
Next meeting Monday 9th November AGM
