2003 Sports Dinner

Our 6th Annual Sports Dinner was held at the Jarvis Leyland Hotel on Thursday 3rd April 2003. About 100 guests from the Football Club, Gregson Lane Cricket Club and various local businesses were entertained by Tommy Smith, ex-Liverpool captain, and Sid Tate, comedian. A superb raffle and auction raised several hundred pounds and everyone who attended enjoyed themselves.

Guest of honour Tommy Smith speaks at the sports dinner.

We should benefit to the tune of several hundred pounds, which will buy kit for all our players. It is a shame that more parents cannot attend these events, as their children reap the rewards!

Dinner Guests
Left to right, Frank Thompson (club Secretary), Sid Tate, Tommy Smith, Peter Holme (club Treasurer) and Les Simpson the MC and organiser of the event.

The Sponsored walk on Saturday 19th April was supported by about 40 players, parents and managers. A one and a half hour circular walk from Gregson Lane park ended at the Sports & Social Club for a well earned drink (non-alcoholic of course). The weather was fine and many groups answered a treasure hunt quiz on the way round, for which the best three will receive a prize at the Presentation Evenings. The event has raised several hundred pounds for our teams, so thank to all those who took part. It is hoped to use this money to buy waterproof tops for all our teams.
