Summer Football 2004

As usual at this time of year, many of our teams were involved in post-season tournaments and friendly matches.

The under 9 team entered a six-a-side tournament at BAC/EE Preston on 23rd May and lost 1-0 in the final. On 6th June, the under 8 team also played in a tournament and Eccleston, reaching the final but losing on penalties. Well done to both teams.

Gregson Lane Summer Tournament 2004

On Saturday 3rd July 2004 we held our first ever 7-a-side summer tournament, for under 8s and under 9s teams from all over Lancashire. The event was held at Withy Grove Leisure Centre, Bamber Bridge, starting at 10.30am. Eight under 8s teams and fourteen under 9s teams played group games in the morning and after a short break for lunch, played semifinals in the afternoon.

In the under 8s semis Great Harwood beat Gregson Lane 2-0 and Walton-le-Dale Yellow beat Ormskirk West End 1-0. The Final was closely fought and ended 0-0 so it was decided by penalties, Great Harwood winning the final shootout.

In the Under 9s semis Accoutre of Blackburn beat Banks 3-1 and Walton-le-Dale Blue beat Gregson Lane 1-0. Their final also went to penalties and Accoutre came out as winners. All the winners and runners-up received individual trophies. The day went well and although there was a high wind the rain generally kept away. Thanks must go to the referees and parents who helped on the day, and to Craig Davies, the under 9s manager who did most of the organising of the event. We hope the event will be repeated next year, but we will need more volunteers next time.
