Sir Tom Finney Presents Under 11 Awards

The under 11s team had an end-of-season party at Gregson Lane Sports and Social Club on Friday 7th May. The event was generously sponsored by manager Bill Cecil's company, HCH services Ltd, as a 'thank you' to his players and parents. In addition to a buffet and disco, awards were presented to players by the special Guest of Honour Sir Tom Finney. This was one of the few times Sir Tom has ever attended a junior football event and the Club is extremely proud that he chose Gregson Lane Juniors. The only other 'Legend' to attend our events so far has been Frank Thompson, our Club secretary!

Sir Tom made a brief speech in which he praised the Club for its efforts in encouraging so many youngsters to play regular football having learnt that we ran eleven teams, from U7s to U16s. He stayed for over three hours, signing autographs and chatting, and he is indeed a true gentleman. We hope to see the U11s again at the Club Presentation evening on June 10th (tickets from the manager).
